Weekly Photo Challenge: Beneath Your Feet

My mother continues to be cared for in the local hospice home and every day my feet pass over brick pavers as I arrive and leave. On each brick is the name of a donor or an individual memorialized by loved ones.

IMGP8014Every block represents a significant contribution that helped to build this facility which is staffed by a competent and caring staff.

IMGP8015So, every day these bricks, which are beneath my feet, cause me to be grateful for those who saw the need and helped fund this homey setting for those who are facing an end of life illness.

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Beneath Your Feet.”

    • Yes, Rene, I would imagine that would be a very sobering walk, especially for those who are battling cancer. But, perhaps the walk serves as a reminder TO all that death is inevitable FOR all and hopefully the messages coming from the camp’s chapel are those of hope for life that is abundant (even in the midst of life’s struggles) and of hope for eternal life to come.

  1. My aunt who suffers from Alzheimer’s is currently at a home which specialises in the care of the elderly and although there is no tangible memorial of either donors or past residents I think laying a brick with a name is a great idea. Loved this thought most of all: “So, every day that which is beneath my feet causes me to be grateful for those who saw the need and helped fund this homey setting for those who are facing an end of life illness.” Thanks for sharing. Hugs to your mom.

    • Thank you, Gail, for your kind words and reblogging this post (I’m honored). We are fortunate to have such facilities and we rest easier knowing that Mom is getting such good care. I will give Mom a hug from my WordPress friend and I’ll offer some prayers for your aunt and family, as well.

  2. Reblogged this on Living Life Day by Day and commented:
As you may know I have a weak spot for the elderly, especially those who may be suffering from Alzheimer’s or Dementia. That’s probably why this photo of beautiful bricks laid to honor those who have donated to the building of the facility as well as loved ones touches me most. My favorite takeaway from this post: “So, every day that which is beneath my feet causes me to be grateful for those who saw the need and helped fund this homey setting for those who are facing an end of life illness.”

Can we be ‘brick layers’ of the future for a good cause? I think we can.

  3. I too was blessed by all those who had the vision, ability and funds to design such a lovely place not only for our Mom to have excellent care in her last phases of life, but also that her family’s needs were also accommodated for our long stays from out of town, and for times with other groups of family to gather with her in the dining area just like home. Many thanks from the Spindler family.
